Alloy 52 (UNS N14052, Pernifer®50 ) is a controlled expansion alloy, consisting of 50.5% nickel, balance Iron. Ed Fagan Incorporated stocks it in plate, sheet and wire rod. It is used for sealing to soft glasses, such as in the lead wire for mercury switches and semiconductor devices, automotive and industrial lamps. It is also used for terminals enameled resistors terminals.

The historic industry/government specifications covering these materials are:
•  MIL I 23011 Class 2  •  AMS I 23011 Class 2

MIL I 23011 is an old, abandoned specification. It was superseded by AMS 23011 in 1998. Alloy 52 is designated Class 2 in these specs. We specify these spec to our mill. They melt and manufacture to these standards and state such on our test reports. This is to support the many legacy prints and applications that still exists and to maintain conformity industry requires.

Alloy 52 is suited for applications where the thermal expansion must be engineered during temperature variations into the component design. 52 Alloy is used:
For structural components in measurement and controls in which variations in expansion and contraction of temperature changes would negatively impact the accuracy of component.
