Rhenium Description

Rhenium is a rare element identified by the symbol Re.  This material is not created freely or as a compound within nature, but is made through commercial production processes.  The flue dusts from Copper and Molybdenum smelters are extracted and refined to produce this refractory metal.

It is described as silvery-white dense metal with the second highest melting point that resists corrosion and oxidation.  It offers high resistivity, combined with low vapor pressure.  It is commonly used as an alloying agent to improve the properties of other metals.

Rhenium Properties

When evaluating a metal for inclusion in your next application, we know the importance of having typical physical and mechanical data you can rely on. We have listed some of the most noteworthy benefits of Rhenium.

  • High Ductility
  • High Young’s modulus (460 GPa)
  • High Tensile Strength
  • Low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion
